Vision & Mission of the Foundation for Family Healing

Our Vision

The Foundation for Family Healing serves as a catalyst to support sustainable systemic change within the mental health system and care provided to children through education, direct training and support.

“Our state and private agencies need to receive and then provide training to parents that help them understand the nature of trauma and how painful past experiences evolve into severe behaviors. In this matter the behavior is only a symptom of a child’s pain… And it’s our job as professionals to understand these behaviors” ~ Dawn Wadiak

Our Mission

To provide individuals, parents and professionals with education and effective therapeutic resources to stop the transmission of generational trauma and to see individuals and families receive healing in their lives and relationships.

“Families are seeking answers…they need hope that their relationship with their spouse can change and that their child can improve. Effective therapeutic interventions should bring healing and interrupt years of maladaptive patterning in thinking, emotions and behavioral reactions. It’s time to stop working in isolation – focusing just on the child and his or her behaviors. A child needs relationships in order to heal. And until we as adults provide security to children we should not expect for them to trust and improve. They didn’t ask for the pain…they are the byproduct of the pain of adults in their lives.” ~ Dawn Wadiak

Goals: The Foundation for Family Healing understands the impact upon society from the breakdown of the family unit; often due to the generational transmission of trauma and maladaptive behavioral patterning. With this understanding The Foundation for Family Healing has four main goals to four identified groups:

  1. To provide education and training to professionals on the nature and impact of trauma, subsequent behavioral patterning in adolescents, repair of attachment and development of regulation in children, adolescents and adults to reduce dependency upon the mental health system at large and improve the systems of care we provide to families in need.

  2. To provide education, training and therapeutic support to parents who care for children who have experienced any type of trauma in order to bring healing from these painful experiences and reduce the increase of severe behaviors. Education and therapeutic support services that will work to reduce disruptions within the home environment from severe behaviors and cycles of family conflict.

  3. To provide education, training and support to teachers and support personnel within academic settings who work with children with severe behaviors in the classroom. Find out why traditional “fear based” point charts and reward systems work against the progress and improvement of children with trauma in their history.

  4. To provide education and therapeutic workshops to individuals and non-profit Organizations about the nature of generational trauma, recurrent pain cycles in families, interrupting unhealthy behavioral patterning and relational repair within marriages and in parent/child relationships.

Directors, Supervisors and Social Workers are faced with the challenge of seeing children repeat through the system year after year with little to no improve and limited sustainability within the home environment. It’s time to identify key systemic issues and the circle of support surrounding a child and raise the accountability of therapeutic services being provides through review of outcomes and recidivism rates.” ~ Dawn Wadiak
